Our Story

NTC Estudio takes its name from Reparto Náutico, the Havana neighborhood where both of its founders were born a neighborhood that lives permanently in the memory of those who knew it, the way only a lost paradise can. Tucked within the old Marianao Beaches, once famous for their grand social clubs and golden shoreline, Náutico was where the socios of Club Náutico kept their summer homes. It was a place where social classes dissolved into a shared beach culture, relaxed, elegant, deeply tied to the sea.

So magnetic was its atmosphere that it drew luminaries of the era, among them Marlon Brando, who found in its salt air the same escape everyone else did. The neighborhood's geography gave it a rare gift: a single secured entrance, which made it an enclave unto itself private, protected, and consequential enough that it reportedly hosted the highest-level gatherings of the international mafia of the moment within its streets.

One of those homes anchors the studio's story. It was built by a co-founder's great-grandfather, a lawyer who commissioned it as a family vacation residence, and designed by the architectural firm Capablanca y Santana led by the brother of the legendary chess grandmaster José Raúl Capablanca. When the family wasn't using it, the house was rented out. It was through the gardener who worked there that the stories were passed down including the presence of some of the most powerful figures of the international mafia of the era, who passed through its rooms like any other guest.

Náutico reached its peak in the late 1950s. Then history intervened. The revolution changed everything, and what could not be saved in concrete and steel was preserved only in the memory of those who grew up knowing what had been lost.

That romantic grief is not incidental to the work of the studio. It is the engine behind it. To have been born in a place of such beauty, and to have lost it, teaches something that cannot be untaught: that getting it right matters. That a space which touches people is not an accident. It is a composition, carefully made, from everything that is true.
